2018 Off-season discussion
Re: 2018 Off-season discussion
I think that any stats categories related to faceoff would boost way too much the value of centermans vs. the other players.
Re: 2018 Off-season discussion
Maybe. Centres get kicked out of the faceoff circle every game so wingers will take faceoffs as well. Also its a % instead of just a number so I think that helps avoid centers taking up too much value. If it was # of faceoffs won, centres would have way too much value. Since its a %, you could have a centre who takes lots of faceoffs but is crappy with say 34% won vs a winger who takes 3 draws in a game and wins all 3 with 100%. That centre is going to drag down that faceoff % category. But yea I'll have to talk to the yahoo developer and see if they are going ahead with it first.

I hate this idea. It changes far too drastically the values of players. Suddenly someone like Bergeron or Sid gain even more value while other elite guys could lose value.

I agree with you on that.

I like this idea since it can really almost become 36hrs right now. Plus if your pick times out, maybe having it drop to the end of the round (suggested by another GM). Which I also like.
Re: 2018 Off-season discussion
I endorse the idea of having to wait until the end of the round to make your pick if you miss the deadline.

The 2 stat categories I do not like are PIM and SHP. I just don't think player should be rewarded for causing their team to become shorthanded (since most of the PIMs come from minor penalties). I think more and more leagues are moving away from PIMs. We already have defensive stats in hits and blocked shots. SHP is just so random. Year to year leaders in that category change. Remember JG Pageau. 2 years ago he was a top 25 player based primarily on SHP. Now he is not even on anyone's roster.
I think bringing back +/- as a category is better than having these categories. And I agree about FO% changing too much the value of players.

Short handed points add value to guys who don't see PP time, also helps out with adding value to 3rd line filler guys who are the ones who usually dont see the PP time, yes its a low volume category but it also means you have to balance your team more. A deep league like ours needs that balance, or else superstar players have WAY too much value. If it were only a 6 team league sure, but in a league as expansive as ours, we need some balance.
I do agree with the PIMS tho. I'm seeing less and less value in this category as the league does away with enforcers. Its just a hindrance to the team now.
And +/- is just a laughable stat, its more of a team your on stat than an individual stat anyways.
