2015 NHLFL redraft (just for fun)

Post by Steve-CanucksGM »

I was looking at Button's prospect rankings, looking at a couple of redrafts that popped up in my Instagram feed so it gave me the idea to look back at our drafts and see how they panned out and redraft the 1st round (using our current categories). Feel free to look at mine and submit your own.. I figure we'd start by looking at the 2015 draft:

Original selections:

:Round 1::

1. Mississauga Steelheads – Connor McDavid
2. Vancouver Canucks (via OTT) – Jack Eichel
3. Ottawa Senators (via VAN)– Dylan Strome
4. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Mitch Marner
5. Vancouver Canucks (via MH) – Mikko Rantanen
6. Dallas Stars – Timo Meier
7. Vancouver Canucks (via TOR) (via VAN) (via WSC) – Pavel Zacha
8. Vladivostok Admirals – Ivan Provorov
9. Dallas Stars (via VAN) (via OTT) (via VAN) (via TOR) - Evgeni Svechnikov
10. Medicine Hat Tricks (via NYR) - Matt Barzal
11. Toronto Maple Leafs (via NSH) - Noah Hanifin
12. Toronto Maple Leafs (via VAN) (via DAL) (via WPG) (via VAN) (via LON) - Kyle Connor
13. Vancouver Canucks (via MIS) (via SJ) - Denis Guryanov
14. Vancouver Canucks (via WPG) - Lawson Crouse

Redrafted selections:

:Round 1::

1. Mississauga Steelheads – Connor McDavid (originally #1 by MIS)
-seems obvious as the best player in the league

2. Vancouver Canucks – Jack Eichel (originally #2 by VAN)
-again seems like an obvious pick (and really staring to grow into form - that 10m over 8yrs is a solid contract as well)

3. Ottawa Senators – Sebastian Aho (originally #75 by NYR)
-Biggest riser by far.. I was going to go with Marner, but his goal scoring, shot production and SHP are quite valuable.

4. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Mitch Marner (originally #4 by ANH)
-lacks goals, shots and peripherals, but has a great mix of stats and seems to only be getting better.

5. Vancouver Canucks – Ilya Samsonov (originally #23 by NSH)
-With goalie values being so high, Samsonov fits well at #5. Great team, just starting his ELC and a ton of potential to be that #1 guy long term.

6. Dallas Stars – Mikko Rantanen (originally #5 by Vancouver)
-drops 1 spot, his contract is pricey, and was having a so so season, but with MacKinnon, he will continue to flirt with 90ish pts

7. Vancouver Canucks – Matthew Barzal (originally #10 by MH)
-Jumps a bit, #1C in NYI.. shoots a good amount (200ish) and should pot more goals to go along with his ample As

8. Vladivostok Admirals – Kyle Connor (originally #12 by TML)
-Jumps for his shots, goals and fantastic contract.. could be above Barzal, but I like him at 8.

9. Dallas Stars - Travis Konecny (originally #16 by WPG)
-Really having a breakout season.. fills a lot of boxes and will continue to grow. Again, great contract.

10. Medicine Hat Tricks - Brock Boeser (originally #20 by DAL)
-Injuries have hurt his production (Dallas knows this all too well).. but his goal scoring, and being paired with EP40.. it's easy to keep him on the top 10.

11. Toronto Maple Leafs - Thomas Chabot (originally #47 by NYR)
-Love his minutes, peripherals and production. Could easily be in the top 5 in a few seasons.

12. Toronto Maple Leafs - Ivan Provorov (originally #8 by VLD)
-Strong peripherals and point totals. Really rounding out into form. Should see an increase in production in a season or two once the team is a little older.

13. Vancouver Canucks - Timo Meier (originally #6 by DAL)
-Peripherals and points, good contract.. bad team (has that Dallas injury curse as well). However his tale t is there to be a multicat monster.

14. Vancouver Canucks - Kirill Kaprizov (originally #88 by VAN)
-My dark horse... was going to go with Werenski or Blackwood, but the hype around Kaprizov along with the talent overseas just has me thinking he could be a top 10 pick in a re-redraft in a few seasons.

I'd love to see if anyone has a different take on our 2015 redraft.

Great initiative, will be fun to have a little hockey talks. I hope everyone and their families are safe, we'll get through this!

1st - Connor McDavid : Obviously
2nd - Jack Eichel : He was really becoming a true elite player this year and it should stay like that. Buffalo is a few pieces away from being a competitive team.
3rd - Mitch Marner : Should be a 100+ pts player for the next 5-7 years
4th - Sebastian Aho : Can't believe he has been picked 75th in our original draft, what a steal.
5th - Mikko Rantanen : Scored 41 pts in 42 games in a down/injured year... he's great and playing with one of the best in Mack.
6th - Matthew Barzal : His scoring would probably be higher if he was not playing under Trotz. Great player
7th - Kyle Connor : Great scoring on a good team. If he only had a little more peripherals...
8th - Thomas Chabot: Have the potential to be one of the best all around Dman. A really high ceiling
9th - Zack Werenski : Ditto
10th - Travis Konecny : Turning into a point-per-game player. I really like him
11th - Timo Meier : Could be higher on this list if he develop well, potentially a multicat monster.
12th - Ivan Provorov : His ceiling is a bit lower than the two other Dman listed above, but he's for real.
13th - Ilya Samsonov : Haven't seen enough of him yet to be a top 5 pick, could turn into that in the next few years. It really depends on how the Caps will perform in 3-4 years. Goalies are voodoo, so we never really know lol
14th - Anthony Cirelli : Huge personal biasis, but I really think he's the next Bergeron.

Honorable mention to :
Kirill Kaprizov
Mackenzie Blackwood
Jake Debrusk
Dylan Strome
Denis Gurianov (I think we only saw the tip of the iceberg for him)
