Here is the 3rd instalment of the redraft series. I don't know if anyone is actually looking at them, but I like looking back them and seeing how I would rate and redraft it, so here we go:
The 2017 draft is a little different since it was only a few years back, this one I looked at and rated the players based on a mix of what they've shown and the potential they may show.
The original 1st round:
1.Montreal (via Edmonton) - Nolan Patrick
2.Montreal (via Anaheim) - Nico Hischier
3.Quebec - Cody Glass
4.Edmonton (via Montreal) - Gabriel Vilardi
5.Quebec(via Toronto (via Vladivostok) - Casey Middlestadt
6.Dallas - Timothy Liljegren
7.Montreal (via New York) - Lias Andersson
8.Anaheim (via Montreal (via Edmonton (via Vancouver) - Nick Suzuki
9.Toronto (via Quebec (via Toronto via Windsor) - Owen Tippett
10.Edmonton (via Ottawa) - Cale Makar
11.Mississauga- Miro Heiskanen
12.Vladivostok (via Toronto) - Martin Necas
13.Quebec (via Winnipeg) - Erik Brannstrom
14.Las Vegas - Jusso Valimaki
The 2017 redraft: (I'll post all of my reasonings later on)
1st overall the Montreal Canadiens select: Elias Pettersson (originally drafted 16th overall by Winnipeg)
Montreal had the top 2 picks in this draft, so they are going to get both players I had to choose between for #1 overall this draft. Pettersson has shown so much promise at his young age. He can pass, he can finish. While he doesn't offer much in the way of hits, blocks etc, he is the type of skill player that you can look over all of that to take at #1.
2nd overall the Montreal Canadiens select: Cale Makar (originally drafted 10th overall by Edmonton)
Makar was the other player I considered for #1. He has emerged as the PPQB on a young, dynamic, Avalanche team. He looks like he's a stud in the making.
3rd overall the Quebec Nordiques select Nico Hishier (originally drafted 2nd overall by Montreal)
Nico drops from 2nd to 3rd in our draft. He is a very good defensive centre with untapped offensive upside. I believe that Hughes fits better as a winger at the NHL level, and he and Hishier could be a dynamic duo as they grow.
4th overall the Edmonton Oilers select: Nick Suzuki (originally drafted 8th overall by Anaheim)
5th overall the Quebec Nordiques select: Martin Necas (originally drafted 12th overall by Vladivostok)
6th overall the Dallas Stars select: Miro Heiskanen (originally drafted 11th overall by Mississauga)
7th overall the Montreal Canadiens select: Kailer Yamamoto (originally drafted 18th overall by Winnipeg)
8th overall the Anaheim Ducks select: Cody Glass (originally drafted 3rd overall by Quebec)
9th overall the Toronto Maple Leafs select: Robert Thomas (originally drafted 24th overall by Mississauga)
10th overall the Edmonton Oilers select: Morgan Frost (originally drafted 34th overall by Dallas)
11th overall the Mississauga Steelheads select: Drake Batherson (originally drafted 78th overall by Ottawa)
12th overall the Vladivostok Admirals select: Erik Brannstrom (originally drafted 13th overall by Quebec)
13th overall the Quebec Nordiques select: Gabriel Vilardi (originally drafted 4th overall by Edmonton)
14th overall the Las Vegas Golden Knights select: Owen Tippett (originally drafted 9th overall by Toronto)
Falling out of the 1st round:
Nolan Patrick - 1st overall This one can change based on the severity of the migranes, as of now I would choose Patrick in the 2nd round of our draft
Casey Middlestadt - 5th overall (2nd round of our draft)
Timothy Liljegren - 6th overall (2nd round of our draft)
Lias Andersson - 7th overall (3rd round of our draft)
Jusso Valimaki - 14th overall (2nd round of our draft)
