2018 Off-season discussion
Re: 2018 Off-season discussion
As for trades, Everyone values certain players differently than others, its what makes trades possible in the league. We try and keep the league as fair and balanced as possible, but we also try not to step on anyones toes... even if the trade doesn't seem wise. Live and learn. We simply try and prevent GMs from colluding with others because they may be leaving the league and want to help a friend out, whilst firesailing their team.
I get the frustrations when it seems like one GM is clearly winning a lopsided trade.... and when we see it, we usually message both GM's and have them explain the trade, with most of the conversation being with the GM who we feel is losing the trade. If they can explain their thought process and why they are making the trade, we usually allow it, And its worked well over the years. I've been a member of this league for close to 8 years i believe now, and have seen only a single handful of trades veto'd.
Just because the majority of the league doesn't agree with the deal, doesn't mean it shouldn't go through in my opinion. If the GM on the losing end of the deal can explain rationally why they are making the trade, I don't feel the need to step in further unless it clearly looks like collusion. I'm sure everyone has made bad trades, and everyone has made good trades. Its just part of the process. We all shouldn't want to feel micromanaged or ganged up on. We like activity, we like trades. At the end of the day, we like you to be able to build and manage your team as you see fit within a certain small range of rules.

It's not about collusion. I think everyone is honest in their actions and here for fun, anyway what would be the point in cheating in a free fantasy league.
I think tho that a lopsided trade can influence future trades. Gms are going to be asking for the same kind of return for similar players, wich can hurt more activities and trades than a vote system in case of suspectful/lopsided trades. It would be the same as now, only with more people involved in the decision making.
It's just a proposition, If you guys are against it I have no problem with that and will move on

They can ask for whatever they'd like tho...doesn't mean that someone is going to pay the price, just like any other trade.... Everyone has their own value they assign to players, some people value certain players more than others,or certain aspects more than others. Its what makes trades possible. If everyone values players the same way, trades wouldn't get done, or everything would just be a sidestep. While equal value for equal value on every trade would be ideal, i don't think necessary nor is it an issue that really needs to be forced upon GM's who can give reasoning behind why they are making that trade.ColumbusGM wrote: Tue Aug 07, 2018 8:02 pm It's not about collusion. Most of the time issues only arise with fresh GM's who get a little trade happy, and want to reshape their team and haven't really been around long enough to gain the knowledge of values on players in this league. Most of the vetos happened because of this. We like to think the GM's with a season or two under their belt know what they are doing and give them the benefit of the doubt.

So not sure if anyone else noticed but even Yahoo changed their standard categories. No more PIMs. It is replaced by hits. I think it is something we should really consider. Even though +/- is not a perfect stat, it is better than PIMs. Enforcers are pretty much extinct so most of the PIMs only hurt the team by putting them down a man.

I still see PIM in the stats, only been on the app tho..
As for +/- I hate this stats. Ekman-Larsson was -28 last year, Matt Grzelcyk was +22 ... It will only lesser the value of players in the last tier teams

+/- is one of the dumbest stats in all of sports. It's been proven ad nauseum.
Can we please not go down this road?

+/- was already discussed on page 5 and 6. It use to be a category we tracked a few years ago, and was then eliminated for good reason by almost a unanimous vote when it was voted on back then.
Re: 2018 Off-season discussion
What I meant is Yahoo decided that PIMs are stupid and changed it to hits as their standard category in public leagues. Fine, if everyone is against +/-, I would still recommend getting rid of PIMs. In order to balance out the categories, we could consider dropping Saves as a category. It really benefits volume of starters rather than quality.steve-canucksgm wrote: Sat Aug 18, 2018 7:03 pm PIMs are still there and we have hits as a category already!
