2018 Off-season discussion

Post by Steve-CanucksGM »

I'm opening this thread to see if there are any ideas/suggestions for the league for the upcoming seasons. Anything that works well, or doesn't seem to work. Anything and every thing is up for discussion.

Toss out those ideas.

A meetup of some sort at a bar in a centralized locale to catch a game and enjoy a beer or two, or three, or four..

I'm also assuming/hoping many of you guys are from the same area for this to work lol

A limit on how many FA signings you make during the season.

Maximum of draft years into the future you're allowed to trade picks from.

Example:

If it's 1991, you're not allowed to trade your 1994 picks.

I'm all for a FA signing cap that occurs monthly. I feel it waters down the league just to be able to pick up any player you want at any time during the season. I may be alone on this train of thought. I understand injuries occur, but that should also be the point of having your AHL roster. Having players on their that can step into the NHL when you need them. Not just prospects.

I don't mind this, whether its a cap of 50, 100 a year etc. This could be kept track of in a separate thread where each team adds the player to the thread once signed.. as long as everyone keeps up with it. I dont want to be alone in keeping track.

Ex.

Mississauga Steelheads

1. Chris Stewart
2.
3.
...
50.

Trading 5 guys just to sign 5 free agents right after really ruins the significance of the trade itself.

I'm thinking 3-5 FA signings a month could be satisfactory.

I totally agree. We should be building deep teams, for injuries. And if you have literally no one on your "AHL" roster to step up, that's your own fault and you shouldn't be able to just sign 100 players throughout the year to fill the void. You should suffer with a roster of 20/25 or whatever the case.

But if you trade 5 depth pieces for a star, then you need those FA signings to refill the holes.

It's tough to limit the signings in a deep deep dynasty league like ours.
