2016 NHLFL redraft

Post by Steve-CanucksGM »

Next on the list is the 2016 redraft.

Here are the original selections (this first round seems a lot less straightforward than the 2015 draft).

1. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Auston Matthews - C
2. San Jose Sharks (via Mississauga Steelheads) - Patrik Laine - LW/RW
3. Winnipeg Jets (via Vladivostok Admirals) - Jesse Puljujarvi - RW
4. West Coast Express - Pierre-Luc Dubois - C
5. Windsor Spitfires (via Ottawa Senators) - Alexander Nylander - LW
6. Winnipeg Jets (via Vancouver Canucks) - Matthew Tkachuk - LW
7. New York Rangers - Clayton Keller - C
8. Vladivostok Admirals (via Winnipeg Jets) - Tyson Jost - C
9. San Jose Sharks - Logan Brown - C
10. Dallas Stars - Jakob Chychrun - D
11. Ottawa Senators (via Windsor Spitfires) - Olli Juolevi - D
12. Toronto Maple Leafs (via Nashville Predators) - Mikahil Sergachev - D
13. Sab Jose Sharks (via Las Vegas Black Knights) - Julien Gauthier - RW
14. Nashville Predators (via Toronto Maple Leafs) - Max Jones - LW

Redraft:

Round 1

1. Anaheim Mighty Ducks - Auston Matthews (originally #1 by ANH)

Matthews is a talented goalscorer who seems to be only getting better. His chemistry with Marner and their contracts over the next 5 years, he should only get better.

2. San Jose Sharks - Matthew Tkachuk (orginally #6 by WPG)

Tkachuk offers a ton in terms of points and peripherals along with a very good contract. In our league settings, Tkachuk hits about every category needed.

3. Winnipeg Jets - Patrik Laine (originally # 2 by SJS)

Laine could be #2 on this redraft in the coming years, but in terms of what he offers he is far more 1 dimensional than Tkachuk. I love his goalscoring ability and has looked very good with a proper centre most of the year.

4. West Coast Express - Pierre-Luc Dubois (originally #4 by WCE)

PLD is a very good young centre who, last year, showed a lot of potential in terms of what he brings to a team category wise. His drop off this season seems team based to me and I would still take him #4 in this draft.

5. Windsor Spitfires - Mikahil Sergachev (originally #12 by TML)

This pick is based on what I saw the 2nd half of this season. Once he took over PP1 from Hedman he looked like a strong QB on a great team.

6. Winnipeg Jets - Alex Debrincat (originally #15 by ANH)

Goal scoring dynamo, Debrincat, while he was inconsistent this season, he has 40 goal potential yearly which is tough to find.

7. New York Rangers - Carter Hart (originally #22 by VLD)

Hart is the young goaltender of the future in Philly. The team is getting stronger in front of him and he looks strong on the back end.

8. Vladivostok Admirals - Clayton Keller (originally #7 by NYR)

While I don't like the team around him, Keller still has a ton of untapped potential and is a great pick only 1 selection later than originally in 2016.

9. San Jose Sharks - Jakob Chychrun (originally #10 by DAL)

Fills categories and if ARZ gets better, like Keller, his stats should only improve - already fills the peripherals and great contract.

10. Dallas Stars - Adam Fox (originally #62 MIS)

Fox really emerged as a strong PP option on a quick rebuilding NYR team. It was worth the wait on Fox and he has come as advertised.

11. Ottawa Senators - Sam Girard (originally #47 WPG)

3rd Dman in a row. While Girard is behind Makar on the depth chart, he has shown he can take the role if need be.

12. Toronto Maple Leafs - Luke Kunin (originally #23 SJS)

Began to emerge as a goalscoring option in MIN And should continue to grow.

13. Sab Jose Sharks - Charlie McAvoy (originally #20 by MIS)

McAvoy has grown and will continue to grow. If Krug leaves Boston, McAvoy should be a candidate to take that #1 PP spot.

14. Nashville Predators - Sam Steel (originally #43 WPG)

Based on upside, I like Steel at the end of this draft class. He should be a very good #2 C behind Zegras in the long term.

With this redraft, 7 of the original selections were 1st round picks.

Falling out of rd.1

Jesse Puljujarvi @ #3
Alex Nylander @ #5
Tyson Jost @ #8
Logan Brown @ #9
Olli Juolevi @ #11
Julien Gauthier @ #13
Max Jones @ #14
